Privacy Policy for Collate
Last updated: September 6, 2026
Collate is an app for Mac, iPhone and iPad that merges images and PDFs into a single document. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it.
Summary
Collate does not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your data. Everything happens entirely on your device.
What Collate does with your files
- Collate only accesses files you explicitly choose — by opening them through the file picker, dragging them into the app’s window, importing them from the Files app or your Photo Library, scanning them with the camera, sending them from Finder with the “Send to Collate” Services menu entry, or passing them to the “Merge Files” action in Shortcuts.
- All processing — importing, reordering, OCR text recognition, compression, and PDF export — happens locally on your device using Apple's own system frameworks (Vision, PDFKit, Core Graphics). Your files never leave your device.
- Collate never uploads your files. It has no server, no analytics and no file-transfer code of any kind, so it cannot send your files, their contents, or any information about them anywhere. Its only network use at all is Apple’s own StoreKit, for the in-app purchase described below — that connection carries no information about your documents.
Data collection
Collate does not collect:
- Personal information
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Crash reports (beyond what the operating system itself may collect system-wide, which you control separately in Settings)
- Any identifiers, advertising or otherwise
Collate has no accounts, no sign-in, and no server component of any kind. It stores your preferences (such as your chosen view and export settings) on your device using the system’s standard settings storage; this never leaves your device.
In-app purchase
Collate is free and offers a single one-time in-app purchase, “Collate Pro,” which removes the limit on how many files a merge may contain. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. Collate does not receive, store, or process any payment information — Apple handles the transaction, and no purchase data reaches the developer. There is no subscription.
Third parties
Collate does not integrate any third-party SDKs, analytics services, or advertising frameworks. Nothing is shared with anyone, because nothing is collected in the first place.
Children's privacy
Collate does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, for the reasons above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of Collate adds a feature that does involve data collection — this document will be updated and the change will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
